Photovoltaics for the farmer – an unnecessary luxury or a MUST?

Table of contents

The cost of electricity is a large part of all expenses related to the operation of a farm. With the current increases in electricity prices, farm operators are asking themselves: how to reduce electricity bills?

The ideal solution to this problem is to purchase photovoltaic installation. We will show you which support programs can be used in this situation.

Agroenergia 2022

The Agroenergia program was created to increase energy production from renewable sources in the agricultural sector. You can apply for funding until December 31, 2025, and the last funds will be paid out by the end of 2027.

The Agroenergy program covers persons running an agricultural farm, whereby:

– they are natural or legal persons who own or lease agricultural real estate

– the area of agricultural land is between 1 ha and 300 ha

– they have been personally running a farm for at least one year before submitting the application

How much subsidy can we count on?

fotowoltaika dla rolnika dotacje

The subsidy can be estimated according to the table above. In addition, if the investment involves the construction of a hybrid system, i.e. a combination of two or more different sources of energy production, (e.g. photovoltaic with heat pump or wind power plant with heat pump and photovoltaic) coupled into one system, the subsidy is calculated according to the table, calculating each device separately, and you get an additional bonus of 10 thousand zlotys for the whole system.

In order to take advantage of the subsidy, an application must be submitted before the start of the investment, i.e. before ordering and purchasing equipment, also before concluding a contract for installation. The subsidy is paid in the form of reimbursement of qualified costs of the investment, after its completion, i.e. connection of the micro-installation to the power grid.

Investment tax credit in agricultural tax

The agricultural tax credit is available to individuals and legal entities, as well as organizational units that pay agricultural tax. It is granted when persons have incurred costs related to the purchase of equipment for the production of energy from renewable sources. Up to 25% of the costs incurred for the installation of photovoltaics can be deducted in agricultural tax for up to 15 years.

The decision to grant the investment tax credit is granted by the mayor of the municipality. The relief is granted in the territory of the municipality where the construction of the photovoltaic installation took place. You can take advantage of the agricultural tax credit only if the investment was not financed or co-financed by another support program, such as Agroenergy or My Current.

EKO-KLIMAT water, air, land in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie province

The program makes it possible to receive co-financing in the form of an interest-bearing loan, which can be obtained in two variants, i.e. with partial remission and without remission. The period of eligibility of costs includes expenses incurred from 01.05.20 to 30.06.29, while applications can be submitted until the end of 2027. It is possible to apply for recognition of reimbursement when determining the amount of funding, if the costs were incurred no earlier than one year before the application for funding. The application should be submitted to the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Torun.

The interest rate on the loan depends on the bill discount rate, which is set by the Monetary Policy Council and depends on the type of loan. The minimum loan amount is PLN 80,000, and the repayment period ends at the end of 15 years.

Taking advantage of the EKO-KLIMAT program does not preclude participation in other assistance programs, such as Agroenergy.

Priority Program “OA – Protection of the Atmosphere” Swietokrzyskie province

The support offered by the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice consists of a loan, the amount of which can be up to 90% of the eligible investment costs. The amount of the loan is determined taking into account the environmental effects of the task and the financial capacity of the fund. The terms of repayment of the loan are determined on the basis of an economic and financial analysis of the applicant, with a minimum loan repayment period of 4 years and a maximum of 20 years.
