Heat pump in a detached house – examples of implementation

Spis treści

Nowadays, we want to have a highly efficient and economical heating system in our own home. At the same time, out of concern for the environment, various programmes are being introduced to eliminate high-emission heating devices. According to the anti-smog resolution, as of 1 January of the upcoming 2024, it will no longer be possible to use old coal-fired cookers, or colloquially referred to as “kopciuchów”, in 10 voivodeships in Poland. This prompts residents to think about which heating system they should choose. The heat pump in the single-family home is becoming increasingly popular as an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative. In this article, we will present our customer stories that shed light on the benefits and challenges of introducing heat pumps into single-family homes. We invite you to read on.

Mr Bogdan’s heat pump in a detached house

The impending ban on fossil fuels in the Lublin region forced Mr Bogdan to change his heating system. He had a less than 20-year-old coal-fired cooker that required more and more frequent servicing and cleaning. Mr Bogdan considered two solutions: a gas cooker or a heat pump. Aware of the rising cost of gas and wanting to introduce more environmentally friendly solutions, he decided to invest in a heat pump. Initially, after installing the system, the family noticed the very low energy consumption of the pump. The installation date was in April, so the pump was only used for domestic water heating. At the end of November, as the ambient temperature decreased, Mr Bogdan noticed a significant increase in the electricity consumed by the pump. The customer consulted us on how he could reduce his energy consumption.

The first step was education. The family understood that effective use of the heat pump required some knowledge of how it works. They adapted their habits to the system’s operation, learning how to effectively manage the temperature in the house. It is worth noting that it was crucial to understand that a heat pump does not work in the same way as traditional coal cookers.

The next step was to customise the heat pump in the single-family home to suit the family’s individual needs. The installation of an intelligent temperature management system allowed the conditions in individual rooms to be controlled more precisely. Optimising the heat pump’s operating times according to the family’s daily rituals also brought tangible benefits.

Despite some challenges at the beginning, the family’s involvement in the optimisation process yielded results. Energy bills have been further reduced and thermal comfort in the house has been maintained at a satisfactory level. This story shows that investing in a heat pump requires not only the purchase of the unit, but also commitment and understanding on the part of the users.

Mrs Barbara’s maintenance-free heating system

The story of Mrs Barbara, who lives in a rural area, is an example of how heat pumps can not only be an efficient source of heat, but also meet expectations for a maintenance-free and low-failure system. A key motivation was also the use of available subsidy programmes, which made the decision to switch to this modern solution even easier.

Ms Barbara is retired and was getting tired of adding to the cooker every day and keeping an eye on the temperature in the house. She approached us for an energy audit. After a thorough analysis of the building structure and taking into account Ms Barbara’s motivations, we proposed replacing the old furnace with a heat pump. At the beginning of June 2023, the Daikin heat pump was already installed.

Mrs Barbara and her partner wanted a system that would operate efficiently for many years without the need for frequent technical interventions. The choice of a Daikin heat pump proved to be a hit, as equipment from the best manufacturers on the market has a low failure rate.

Subsidies were also an important guiding factor in the family’s decision. For Mrs Barbara’s needs, we suggested taking advantage of the Clean Air Programme. It turned out that she qualified for the second subsidy threshold. The family was eligible for a grant of PLN 99 000 for a comprehensive thermo-modernisation of their home. With this amount, it was possible to replace all the windows in the house and additionally insulate it with a layer of Styrofoam. This programme was extremely important for Ms Barbara’s family budget.

The result was a home where thermal comfort goes hand in hand with maintenance-free operation and low failure rates. Not only did the family experience tangible savings on their energy bills, but they also enjoyed the stability of the system, eliminating the need for frequent servicing.

In the context of combating climate change, heat pumps as a green heat source supported by government programmes are becoming increasingly attractive. This case study shows that investing in a heat pump in a detached house can benefit not only the wallet, but also the environment, with minimal time and attention to system maintenance. It can be inspiring for anyone looking for not only an efficient, but also a hassle-free solution for heating a detached house.

Heat pump in Mr Michael’s new single-family home

Mr Michael’s family set themselves the goal of building an environmentally friendly energy-efficient home, and chose a heat pump as a key component of this integrated system.

The first step was to select a top quality and highly efficient heat pump, which became the heart of the entire heating system. The next step was to construct the house with a view to minimising heat loss. Advanced thermal insulation, energy-efficient windows and doors, and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery were used. In addition, an installed system with energy storage contributed to the production of electricity, which minimised the drawing of energy from the grid.

The energy management system played a key role in achieving the family’s goals. It intelligently adapted the operation of the heat pump to current needs, reducing energy consumption during periods of lower demand. The family also used the remote control function from the smartphone app, allowing them to monitor and adjust the system settings while away from home.

The result of these measures was an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly home that also generated financial savings for the building’s occupants. Energy bills were minimal and the carbon footprint of the house was negligible. The heat pump, supported by additional technologies, became the most important element of the building.

Summary

From the analysis of the above cases, it is clear that heat pumps are a revolution in the field of residential heating. Energy saving, cost reduction, heating comfort all year round and care for the environment are just some of the aspects that are convincing more and more people to choose this modern and ecological solution.

However, it is extremely important to understand that the successful implementation of a heat pump in a single-family home requires an individualised approach. Adapting the system to the specifics of the building in question, taking climatic conditions into account and managing the system accordingly are key to achieving maximum benefits. Our customer stories show that taking the time to adjust installation parameters and educate users can significantly increase satisfaction with heat pumps.

In the context of the growing importance of ecology, heat pumps appear as an important step towards a friendly environment. The innovation of this solution is in keeping with the spirit of contemporary challenges, challenging traditional heating methods. A heat pump in a single-family home becomes not only the most ecological system, but also the most economical!
