Technologies used in Fronius inverters
Snapinverter
SnapInverter series inverters are distinguished by their clever mounting system, which makes installation and maintenance a breeze. Their innovative design separates the connection section from the power module. They are mounted separately. First, the lightweight connection section is placed on the wall along with full wiring. Then the power module is mounted. The unique opening design simplifies installation and future repairs – the inverter can be seamlessly hung on a wall bracket. If service is needed, only the power module of the inverter needs to be disconnected, there is no need to disassemble the entire unit. All wiring remains intact.
Integrated data communication
Fronius is the first inverter manufacturer to offer a complete data communication package, including integration of Datalogging, Ethernet, WLAN, web server, energy management and various connectors. This allows the inverter to be easily connected to the Internet via a network cable or WLAN interface. This makes it possible to effectively monitor the status of the photovoltaic plant. Interfaces such as Modbus RTU SunSpec, Modbus TCP, and Fronius Solar API (JSON) also enable integration with third-party components. In addition, open interfaces are available in parallel to the Fronius Solar.web online platform.
Superflex Design
SuperFlex Design is a smart combination of technical features that significantly increases flexibility and simplifies the design of photovoltaic installations. Key aspects of SuperFlex Design include two MPP trackers that work with higher system voltages and a wide range of DC input voltages. Each DC input and MPP tracker can handle the total power rating of the inverter, regardless of the orientation of the roof, the presence of shading or the different types of panels. With this advanced architecture, a variety of design aspects can be met with a single inverter model.
Dynamic Peak Manager
Dynamic Peak Manager (DPM) is an innovative MPP tracking algorithm that flexibly modifies its operation in search of the optimal operating point. A unique feature of DPM is its ability to regularly analyze the entire current-voltage characteristic, making it possible to find the global maximum power point (GMPP), even in the case of partial shading.
Smart Grid Ready
Fronius inverters are specifically designed for future technological challenges, such as the Smart Grid. Equipped with advanced control functions, called “Advanced Grid Features,” they are perfectly equipped to meet the growing demands of power grids. These features ensure optimal delivery of both reactive and active power, guaranteeing the safe integration of a large number of photovoltaic installations into the grid. In addition, Fronius inverters prevent unwanted power interruptions by monitoring and regulating grid parameters, resulting in minimized losses. With these features, users can enjoy maximum profit from their photovoltaic installation. In addition, thanks to this technology, inverters can dynamically regulate the supply of energy, taking into account the limits of the power supply to the grid through a meter and setting the appropriate limit.
Zero power supply
In many countries, distribution system operators are increasingly requiring curtailment of the supply of energy by photovoltaic installations as a condition for connection to the grid. In some cases, this means the need to maintain a so-called zero power supply. With its dynamic power curtailment function, Fronius offers a solution to optimally adapt the supplied energy to the grid requirements. The inverter first meets the energy needs of the household and then reduces the power to the maximum value allowed by the grid operator. This innovative feature even makes it possible to stop supplying energy to the grid altogether, thus meeting the operator’s strict guidelines. Thanks to the intuitive user interface on the inverter’s web panel, you can easily adjust the settings and deliver energy to the grid according to them.
Active Cooling
Active cooling technology is based on the use of a single or multiple fans that not only prevent hot spots, but also regulate airflow inside the inverter, maintaining the proper temperature of electronic components. This contributes to extending equipment life, optimizing performance and reducing costs. Active Cooling technology is standard on all Fronius products.
Apart from the photovoltaic modules, the inverter is the most important component of the entire installation. Its task is to change the direct current produced by photovoltaic modules into alternating current, which we use in the home installation. In addition to this, it reads and transmits a whole range of parameters regarding the operation of the installation. The information is available in applications or on websites, and both the installer and the owner of the installation can view the operation of the system. The photovoltaic inverter is the heart of the entire installation.
There are three types of inverters:
- On-grid – they work with the power grid, they allow sending an excess amount of produced energy to the grid, on which their operation depends. This means that a power grid failure will shut down the inverter for safety reasons.
- Off-grid – cooperate with energy storage, work independently of the power grid, making them ideal for those living in areas with difficult access to the power grid.
- Hybrid –they combine the functions of the above inverters, cooperate with energy storage, transmit the excess current produced to the grid and allow the use of current stored in batteries (back-up function) when there is a power outage in the grid. They help raise the facility’s own energy consumption, as energy produced during the day, is stored in the storage and can be used at night.
One of the criteria when choosing an inverter is its warranty, which nowadays should be a minimum of 5 years.
